Block & Leviton Files Amicus Brief In Support of Temporary Restraining Order Barring Asylum Eligibility

The Northern District of California Granted the TRO Supported by Block & Leviton-filed Amicus Brief

Block & Leviton associate Lauren Godles Milgroom and partner Joel Fleming filed an amicus brief on behalf of twenty immigration legal services organizations supporting a request for a temporary restraining order barring the enforcement of a rule barring asylum under certain conditions. The brief argued that the rule would "excessively punish immigrants who have fled horrific circumstances," and who were "seeking sanctuary in the United States under the protection of our asylum laws."

The restraining order preventing the rule from going into effect was granted by the Northern District of California on November 19, 2020.

Block & Leviton is also grateful to its law clerk, Mark Byrne, who assisted with this work.
